Dee Fry is a London based neurodivergent musician, composer, vocalist, songwriter, community musician, & sound & visual artist. They create intricate new music, textural songs and immersive autistic-led projects that combine ethereal compositions, circular vocal harmonies, performance, & visual elements into sensory soundscapes, for which they coined the terms and artistic concepts “StimScapes”,(or Stim-Scapes), and “Autistic Folk-Songs“, work that is otherworldly yet welcoming.
Drawing on elements from art-pop, post-rock, experimental, ambient, folk-song and electronica, to contemporary soundscapes and live improvisation, they compose, record & perform layered sonic-song explorations through vocals & instrumental performance on electric & acoustic guitars, piano, keyboards & synthesisers, while integrating field recordings, sampled objects, recycled & found sound, audiovisuals & adapted technologies.
Dee’s creative practice explores music-visual somatic relationships between neurodivergent multisensory and temporal experience, embodied listening, & “stillness as an active presence“, through reverberating recurring themes of Regulation, Resolution, Release, Repetition, Decay, Stimming, Sustain, Cyclical Time, & Waves of Delay. They create StimScapes, music, songs, films & imagery in relation to their experience of “ND Embodiment”, or what they describe as “Orbiting” – “circuits harmonising aütmospheric dark & light & the natural rhythms of cyclical waves, divergent energies and sensory experience“. An ongoing exploration which always aims to be what they term an “ND+ affirming eco-musicology“, their practice encompasses solo compositions alongside collaborative projects with a diverse range of interdisciplinary musicians and artists.
